Oh Joe, I approved your comment so I could say you're wrong. Sure, not every website's great, but Rich.com has improved their coverage of the arts and cultural community, providing a wealth of content to its coverage. We greatly appreciate their support of First Fridays and the devotion to our program and helping us with our marketing efforts. I hope you will reconsider your feelings if only alone on helping our organization. Thanks for checking out the blog.

You are sadly mistaken if you believe Richmond.Com is all things Richmond...Huh...come on now. Richmond.Com is a corporate joke of a media source for frat boys and sorority girls. I.E. they could care less about art!

Christina - I again apologize for the confusion. The same week that First Fridays received the recognition from Style Weekly we went to work preparing the award. Unfortunately, the earliest date we could present the award was January 25th. There was some confusion with my staff and you were not notified in a timely manner. The buck stops with me and I apologize again for not personally confirming that you were available that night.

Congratulations, Christina, on all you have accomplished with First Fridays! You have true stick-to-it-iveness! You've discussed insightfully some of the finer points of the issues involved in your remarks above.

Since so much was made about the discussion of demographics in the STYLE article, I once again want to call attention to Artspace and art6's venturesomeness in being the first non-profit art galleries on the NORTH side of Broad Street, IN Jackson Ward, with a strong community presence and involvement. We have loved our location at 6 East Broad from the beginning and hope to be able to remain. art6's landlord, Jim Sease, who also owns the Tarrant's Building, says that our building IS grandfathered in as far as the CO goes, and we will be pursuing this possibility again with him soon. He may have documentation of that--which I, and apparently city hall, do not.

Living in Richmond all my life I’ve always realized that Richmond events are almost always black or white in attendance, sometimes almost exclusive either way. Be it the Folk Festival, the 2nd Street Festival, whatever. People can argue the reasons, but let’s face it it’s mostly just the habit of Richmonders.
But I have to say I’ve gone to many First Friday art walks and I find First Fridays though majority a white audience there is a good percentage of black folks in attendance, (basically a mirror of the art community in Richmond). I see other black people, couples, young black folks, and black families, and it’s not a rare occurrence, I see folks that look like me all the time. Some look like regular First Friday goers some look like they may have happened upon the event but everyone is enjoying the festivities.
Like I said Richmonders are creatures of habit but like Christina stated above the art walk has “broken the trend of Richmond event demographics”.
